FINGER LAKES--Proposed budgets, propositions, and board member candidates across the region all found favor with area voters this year.
For Dundee Central School residents gave a thumbs up across the board, easily passing all resolutions. This allows for adoption of the $21.2 million budget; the creation of a 10-year capital reserve fund; and the establishment of a “contract for educational services” with Dundee Library. Casey Busch, Robert Neu and Jared Webster were all elected to three-year seats on the Board of Education.
In Penn Yan, voters passed the $40.8 million budget, authorized the purchase of vehicles, said yes to the capital project and gave the go-ahead to establish a capital reserve fund to replace leaking and aging roofs on school buildings. Securing the most votes, David Willson earned the board seat with a four-year term. Robin Johnson and Sharon Sweet were both elected to seats with three-year terms.
At the south end of Keuka Lake, Hammondsport Central School voters elected Carre Doyle to a five-year seat on the school board. Voters also passed the $15.7 million budget as well as a proposition, which allowed for the purchase of two diesel motor, 70-passenger school buses and related expenditures.
In Watkins Glen, Jessica Saks, Theresa Butler and Tracey VanSkiver were elected to the board of education. Voters also authorized the $29.4 million budget and the associated levy and gave the green light to lease six 66-passenger buses for five years.
For Odessa-Montour, voters passed the $19.98 million budget, authorized the purchase of two 66-passenger school buses and a transit van, and agreed to an additional levy to support the Dutton S. Peterson Library. Four residents earned seats on the board of education, with three-year terms beginning on July 1. Those elected are Jason Dechow, Erica Lohmeyer, Jennifer Mosher and Kyle VanGalder.
